Why does israel just not bomb the **** out of gaza and hamas and get it over with?

Because they know if they did the world would finally treat them like the racist thugs they are. Israel wants to maintain an illusion of being a civilised western country while engaged in an illegal occupation and imposing an apartheid system on its own citizens. Carpet bombing would simply remove the illusion.
