Need help with modern design scheme and other rooms?

Hello! I really need help with design scheme for a few rooms. I would like to do a modern theme red, black, white, silver type colors for the living room and kitchen. I was thinking maybe light gray walls in the living room. Most of the furniture I will be getting is black. The sectional is black and gray and I thought I would get red throw pillows to put on it. In the kitchen I was thinking of painting it red but I don't know? I don't want it to be too overwhelming, any suggestions? Hoping to go with a Chef theme in there. Okay, and for other rooms I also need ideas. Boyfriend says it would be too much to continue the same colors in our bedroom and I should go for a completely different color. I love purple and blue also but I think it would look funny to have the modern theme going in the kitchen and living room then change to other colors but I could be wrong. Any advice would be much appreciated.
